My Thoughts On Sex On The Net
by Rob Trular
One reason that necrophilia and other
sexual interests have been so successful on the Internet is they
satisfy a need. There is a trend lately of condemning the
Internet as being some sort of huge uncontrolled sex medium catering to
the whims of society's perverts and weirdos. While I
agree that sexual access for kids should be limited (a universal way
should be developed for locking out kids from certain areas.) The Net
is far from being a sexual haven for the dregs of society. In the
necro interest alone I have found mostly professional people... folks
who own their own businesses, lawyers, doctors, folks from various
levels of the computer industry (and NOT "geeks"!)... many graphics
industry people, educators, police, fire, rescue... all kinds of folks
I have met with this interest. None of these folks are lurking in
dark corners or breaking into funeral homes for a sexual encounter...
these are all just average folks with a fantasy.
Being in business I have come to
realize that everything exists in this world because there is a "need"
for it to exist. Those areas we find immoral or counter to
society's "norms" (whatever those are) we instinctively want to
erase. But collectively we fail to attack the reason for the
need, all to often trying to hit on the suppliers of that need.
The suppliers exist because there is a need. The only way we will
"win" the drug war is to attack the reasons folks go on drugs... not
the guys in Columbia supplying it. If there was no demand they
would go out of business. But solving the myriad of mental
problems in the world that may cause someone to take drugs would be a
far more difficult and expensive job to do.
Prostitution is the same.
Hookers exist because there are guys out there who have a sexual need
not being satisfied in conventional ways. The solution is NOT
putting hookers in jail... that has been tried and hasn't worked.
So now we have sting setups to catch the customer. We are still
missing the point here. Guys afraid to find a hooker will have to
look elsewhere. This frustration will manifest itself in greater
stress that could result in sex crimes, or an increase in domestic
disturbances and spousal abuse... but who cares about that... at least
there's no more hookers ... or is there?
My point here is that the Net is not a
sexual haven for scum and does not threaten to bring down the pillars
of society. It is a psychological release... a place where real
people go to live out their fantasies... fantasies the real world
condemns. In many instances these folks have had very stressful
experiences in life... personal tragedies they are trying to cope
with... even medical disabilities! If you are a Star Trek person
you may recall the pilot episode of the first series, The Cage. I
use this episode as an analogy to how the Net really is. Remember
Capt. Pike was confined to the wheel chair? The aliens used
mental telepathy to allow him and his girl (who was disfigured) live a
certain quality of life that to them was very real. That's
exactly what the Net provides to all of us. It's a way we can
express ourselves and not be judged for our appearance or maladies...
we can be who we want on the Net.
My most emotional contact was with a
young lady who was confined to a wheel chair as a result of boy friend
abuse two years previous. She had no social life and was quite
depressed and very lonely. She longed for contact with a real
person.... even sexual contact. We met on a necro chat channel
one day; she was new to the IRC chat area. She never told me her
condition at first. Her necro fant was more snuff related...
wanting to be shot then someone having sex with her corpse
But through her typing I recognized a pattern that suggested she was
wrestling with certain emotions. Over a few days we talked more,
about general things (yes... believe it or not... sex is NOT the only
topic on the Net!) and she told me about her confinement to a
chair and the reasons.
Of course I was very sympathetic to her plight... I could
tell she was afraid that if I knew her condition I would leave
her. I discovered she was a Trek nut and we discussed the
episode... which she understood more than me. Up to this point
our chats were never sexually oriented other than the normal "what are
you interested in" talk. Then suddenly she asked me to "hold her"
...then a "hug"... we both drifted into a typed exchange of intense
compassion and longing for each other... not sex... this was her
loneliness being expressed to me.. She wanted another human being to be
with her... For the first time I actually went to tears... I got
extremely emotional over this. This poor young thing was reaching
out to me in the only way she could. She liked classical music...
she turned on her stereo and we "danced" together. A truly moving
experience. Just as I was regaining my composure... she thanked
me for allowing her to be "Capt. Pike" for the evening. That made
me break down again. I have never had such an emotional trip with
someone before.... and it wasn't sexual! My point here is that
the Net can be what you want it to be. This young lady had no
outlet in real life... she was able to touch someone simply by using
her keyboard. The mind is a powerful thing, folks.
Perhaps
the Net NEEDS to be fully investigated... but not by cops, the feds or
some other police agency. It needs to be explored by
psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, counselors... anyone who
has an interest in the human condition. People who can tell the
world about what really goes on. Not just the sensational crap
the media pulls out when some real life meeting results in a murder.
